> English name: Crane

> Distinctive features: Tall, elegant bird with long legs, a slender neck, and wide wings. Literally a crane. you know what they look like, but Japanese depictions exaggerate the big wings and round, calm eyes. Mostly white, often with a red crown.

> Powers: Flight, longevity, spiritual balance, and bringing harmony.

> Habitat: Wetlands, open plains, or among clouds and water in art. In tattoos, often paired with reeds, mist, or seasonal flowers to give movement and flow.

> Claim to fame: Believed to live for a thousand years. One of Japan’s strongest symbols of long life and good luck.

> Common tattoo depictions: a little hard to crop since it relies on the neck and wings to look right, but can be done simpler smaller or more detailed larger. pairs of cranes can show harmony. Can be flying through clouds, resting among lotus or seasonal flowers, or framed with the sun for a dramatic focal point.

> Tattoo symbolism: Longevity, peace, loyalty, spiritual growth. Great for marking survival, healing, or a desire for balance.
