> Pronunciation: (CHO-cheen oh-BAH-keh)

> English name: Lantern yokai

> Distinctive features: A living paper lantern usually with one big eye, a long goofy tongue, ripped paper body, and spirit flames flickering around it. Looks mischievous more than scary.

> Powers: Comes to life through old age, startles people for fun, plays harmless tricks, and can float around guided by its spirit flames.

> Habitat: Streets, old houses, shops, and abandoned places where lanterns would have hung.

> Claim to fame: A tsukumogami - an everyday object that gains a spirit after 100 years. a reminder to take care of your things, then maybe they'll take care of you!

> Common tattoo depictions: Works best as a small to medium piece. Can be just the lantern head floating solo with flames, but also works in a scene with other yokai.

> Tattoo symbolism: Impermanence, humour, playful chaos, and the idea that objects and places carry memories and spirit even after they’re forgotten.
